Detail for Voigt profile
Konstantinos Chatzipanagis
Just one question.....In a previous post a long time ago i asked some details with respect to how parameters of the voigt profile are calculated. Somebody mentioned that in the voigt function if the shape is changed, then the height is readjusted so that the peak area remains constant. Maybe it was John Weeks who suggested that. However, what does this mean practically? I tried to play around with the shape factor and give different values but then the area value given by the tabulated results is changed. Maybe i am missing a point here. Thanks.

together with some literature for further reading.
As you can see, most parameters affect the total area of the peak. If you change a single one of these, the area will change. During fitting, it might happen that a second parameter compensates the change in area but this is not guaranteed. At the end of the day, it depends on how well your fixed parameter is in agreement with your data.
Btw: "tried to play around" is a poor description of what you are doing.
