How to highlight several States in U.S. map

Hello Folks,
During my research I have to divide the States of U.S. into several groups and talk about them separately.
Right now I only have the coordinates of U.S. Please check in the attachment.
Is there anyone can teach me how to highlight several States in U.S. map ?
Or we can try adding different patterns of shadow on the maps.
Thank you very much.
Best Regards.
Yi
Hello Yi,

I am working on a GIS XOP that makes this task fairly easy. The XOP isn't quite ready for its beta release, but I was able to put together an experiment (attached) that helps do what you want. Basically I made an image wave in which each pixel's value is set according to the state it is in. You can then use Explicit color mapping to color (i.e. highlight) particular states.

The image's wave scaling is in the North American Datam of 1983 (NAD83) spatial reference system, which is nearly identical to the even more common WGS84 reference system. The pixel values are the index+1 of the state's location in the W_StateNames wave. You can highlight a particular state by:

1) determine the state's index in W_StateNames
2) right click on the graph and choose "Modify Image Appearance..."
3) In the resulting "Modify Image Appearance" dialog choose "Explicit Mode"
4) Add the state's index+1 to the Explicit Mode values, and select the color you want.
5) Click Do It

In the attached experiment you'll see I highlighted Oregon, California, Nevada, NY, Mass and Florida as an example. The image only covers the continental USA. I had to delete a wave representing the continental USA state boundaries because it made the experiment too big to upload. Email me at support if you need further help with this.

Good Luck,

Nate Hyde
