The surface shows the Tris-ethylendiamine-complex of Cobalt(III) as it is encapsulated in an inorganic matrix. A spacefilling model (= van-der-Waals surface) of the complex is given in "ComplexGizmo". In this plot cobalt is represented in blue, nitrogen in green, carbon in black and hydrogen in light grey color.
The same surface is displayed where the colors represent the distances to the cage: short distances are red, large distances are blue. A comparison shows that short distances are mainly on hydrogens attached to nitrogen. An analysis of the distribution of distances over the surface helps in understanding the principles of host-guest interaction.
