VDT2 setting and its Error

Hi

i wanted to designate the serial ports in the VDT2 Settings. but after selecting COM1 and tick open this port option and then saving. i have a error which says: the port cannot be open.!
what is the probolem ? how can i solve it? for creating a connection between igor and power supply with RS-232 port, should i write a code as well?
