Polychromatic Wave Coloring

I'm tracking a very slow alteration in a periodic oscillation, and I'd like to display it is such a way that this gradual progression can easily be seen.
I think that the best way to do this is to gradually shift the wave color toward blue as time increases. While I know that this can be done by breaking the waves up into multiple sub waves, I'm curious to know if it is possible to define multiple colors on the graph of a single wave?
