Legend Spacing of Symbols

Is it possible to reduce the spacing between the symbols on a legend? Specifically a category plot? Hopefully the attached image illustrates what I mean. There is a significant amount of space between each symbol and I can't figure out how to change that. I have already removed all the spaces in the legend text and was playing around with text sizes, but that just seems to change the entire size of the symbol. I want to make the legend look tidier by moving the symbols closer together, without sacrificing the size of the symbols.
