Igor Pro quit unexpectedly...

Hello,

I have been trying to merge two experiments but unfortunately I keep getting the following message:

Igor Pro quit unexpectedly.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.

I used to do that before and i will occasionally get this message but now it seems to be always there...

I'm using 6.22A version of Igor on OS X 10.8.2 machine

Any advice?
I suspect there is something unusual about one or both of your experiments that is exposing a bug.

If you can send the two experiments and your crash log to WaveMetrics support we will look into it.

If you can't send the experiments, send just your crash log. For information in the crash log, execute:
DisplayHelpTopic "Crash Logs on Mac OS X"

It would be best to put everything into a zip archive and send it to WaveMetrics support as an email attachment. If it is greater than 10 MB zipped, contact WaveMetrics support for FTP instructions.

I might comment that using a link via DropBox (or some other linkable cloud storage location) has worked very well for many of my cases where sending large files via email was just plain unjustifiable.

Many thanks for the reply guys.

I will be sending the two files shortly but where will I find the crash log as the program will completely shut down when trying to merge the two experiments.

When a crash occurs on Mac OS X, most of the time the system is able to generate a crash log. You can usually find it at:

/Users/<user>/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Igor Pro__.crash

or

/Users/<user>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Igor Pro.crash.log

where <user> is your user name.

As of OS X 10.7, the /Users//Library folder is hidden. To reveal the DiagnosticReports folder:

1. Choose Finder->Go to Folder

2. Enter ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

3. Click Go

For irreproducible crashes, send this log as an attachment to support@wavemetrics.com. Include the other information listed above.

The problem was a bug in Igor that triggered only if the name of the merged experiment file exceeded 31 characters after removing the file name extension.

I have fixed this for the next minor update.

Tomorrow (Sunday), if all goes well, you should be able to get an updated application file here: http://www.wavemetrics.net/Downloads/latest/

As that page says, you should first update to the latest beta version (6.30B01) by choosing Help->Updates for Igor. Then download and install the nightly build from http://www.wavemetrics.net/Downloads/latest/.

Until tomorrow you can work around the bug by temporarily changing the merged experiment file name so it is shorter than 31 characters.

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for reporting this problem.
