Igor Pro on macOS Big Sur?
jjweimer
I believe the question arose on the Igor email thread. I don't see it addressed here (apologies if I am missing it).
Out of curiosity:
* What are the expected limitations to run Igor Pro 8 on macOS Big Sur? Anything beyond what we have already with Igor Pro 8 on Catalina?
* Are any of these limitations lifted using Igor Pro 9 on macOS Big Sur instead?
I have Igor Pro 8 on Catalina with no major issues. I am between a rock and a hard place with Igor Pro potentially being the only remaining app that will keep me from updating to Big Sur when it is released.
See https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/legal, #5 and 6. I can tell you that WaveMetrics has not extensively tested any current or future version of Igor Pro on any macOS version greater than 10.14, and that we currently have no plans to do so. If and when Apple releases a new version of macOS we may update the information at https://www.wavemetrics.com/news/igor-pro-macos-1015-catalina to reflect any changes that are relevant to a new version of macOS. Until then, Apple has better lawyers than we do so we keep our mouths zipped.

I have updated https://www.wavemetrics.com/news/igor-pro-macos-1015-catalina to mention macOS 11.0 (Big Sur).
In summary, it works about the same as macOS 10.15 (Catalina). I found two additional issues:
1. It appears that scripting is more restrictive in macOS 11.0 than in prior macOS version. We observe that attempts to delete files and folders using ExecuteScriptText fail starting in macOS 11.0.
2. With macOS 11 and Igor Pro 8.04, the text in the active tab of a tab control disappears. An example is the Help Browser. This does not happen with macOS 10.15 or with Igor Pro 9 (in beta testing as of this writing).
