Controlling a 16 bits camera with Igor

Hi there,

I have used on Windows XP the Frame Grabber XOP to control an 8 bit firewire camera, and it has perfectly worked.
Now, I have switched my camera with a similar one, but with a 16 bit dynamics, and it no longer works.
Both cameras need a specific driver to be installed.
I have noticed that the 8 bit camera is recognized in the Computer folder and can be used directly with Windows, whereas it is not possible for the 16 bit one.
Can the Frame Grabber XOP be used for 16 bit cameras? If no, why? Could it be possible to make it work for such cameras?

Thanks.
Bonjour restedumonde,

It is difficult to answer your question without knowing exactly which XOP you are using. It might help if you also provide some information about the camera.

Hi A.G.,

I am using the DSXOP ton control different Sony cameras: The DFW-V500 (8 bit dynamics), the XCD-SX900 (12 bit dynamics) and the XCD-SX90CR (16 bit dynamics).
The DSXOP works perfectly for the 8 bit camera. For the 12 and 16 bit camera, the picture mode works, but not the video mode.
I hope this will help.

Thanks.

Unfortunately that XOP was written to support 8 bits/pixel/channel cameras. It is not clear to me how DirectShow supports 16-bit but it is obvious that adding this feature to the XOP will require a fair amount of work. If you are comfortable programming in C++ contact support@wavemetrics.com for other options.
